Blue Star Line Chairman, Professor Clive Palmer, today announced the appointment of V.Ships Leisure as the official ship management services partner for The Blue Star Line’s Titanic II project.

V.Ships Leisure is the world’s largest supplier of management and outsourcing services to the maritime leisure industry. It is the passenger shipping arm of V.Ships, the world’s leading provider of third-party ship management and related services.

Professor Palmer said the appointment of V.Ships Leisure further strengthened the team that had been assembled to deliver Titanic II in 2016.

“I would like to welcome V.Ships Leisure to the team and look forward to working closely with them on this landmark project,” Professor Palmer said.

V.Ships Leisure CEO Andrea Zito said the company was pleased to be associated with Blue Star Line and Titanic II.

“We are very pleased to be part of the team that will re-create this iconic ship in a project which we will combine our current know-how with our heritage from the time Vlasov created the first Sitmar Line and then Sitmar Cruises,” he said.

V.Ships Leisure 200 shore-based and 7,000 crew members provide services to more than 120 cruise vessels, ferries and super yachts. These services are in many cases customised to meet the specific needs of clients including the ability to provide integrated deck and engine and hotel management as part of the same service offering.

Its’ parent company V.Group was formed as V.Ships in 1984 by the de-merger of the ship management division of Monaco-based shipowner, Vlasov.

Since formation, the Group has increased the range of ship management and related services offered to the shipping (www.vships.com), leisure (www.vshipsleisure.com) and offshore industries and expanded its network of offices to become a leading maritime outsourcing group of companies.

V.Group’s primary customers are ship and other asset owners who deploy their assets worldwide. These assets include tankers, bulk carriers, gas carriers, chemical tankers, FSOs/FPSOs, containerships, cruise ships, ferries and super yachts.

Titanic II is scheduled to be launched from its construction base in China in 2016, before her maiden passenger voyage retracing its original journey from Southampton to New York.

“Titanic II will be a regular feature on the transatlantic route between the UK and USA,” Professor Palmer said. “This magnificent vessel is being constructed in memory of the heroic people who served on the first ship, as well as the passengers who sadly shared their fate.

“We also want to recognise the artists and artisans whose skill, creativity and dexterity has never been fully recognised because of the ship’s limited service.”

Blue Star Line Pty Ltd Chairman Professor Clive Palmer has announced the shipping
company has signed a contract with Deltamarin for the project development phase for the
Titanic II project.

Blue Star Line has undertaken the task of building Titanic II, a replica of the original RMS
Titanic, which is scheduled to sail from Southampton to New York on her maiden passenger
voyage in 2016.

Titanic II, a full scale version of the original ship, is being designed by the Finland-based
Deltamarin and will be built by leading Chinese shipbuilders CSC Jinling Shipyard, which
since 1996 has built vessels for customers from more than 20 countries

Professor Palmer said the new contract with Deltamarin was signed this month and covers a
detailed schedule of events including the commencement of construction and the keel
laying.

“The scope of work for the contract includes the establishment of project steering
committees and a management team,” he said.

“Deltamarin will be responsible for coordinating the various parties involved in the project
including the shipyard, architects, interior designers and operations managers.”
Professor Palmer said Deltamarin will undertake a full review of the Titanic II project to
ensure the vessel will be compliant with all current safety and construction regulations.

While every bit as luxurious as the original, Titanic II will have every modern amenity along
with 21st century technology and the latest navigation and safety systems.

Australian businessman and owner of Blue Star Cruise Line, Professor Clive Palmer has taken to social media and Twitter to praise Queensland’s Premier Irish Band McGuinness & Co for its performance at the recent Titanic II launch in New York.

The black-tie gala event held on board retired aircraft carrier USS Intrepid where a who’s who of world leaders, senior diplomats and major political figures were treated to a lavish 11-course menu, first class entertainment and the unveiling of Titanic II blueprints.

Professor Palmer was so impressed by the four-piece band that he uploaded a video of the band’s performance to YouTube and shared the link via Twitter.

Mr Palmer said the band, which had been together for four years, perfectly suited the Titanic’s “true atmospherics”.

“They’re very good,” he said.

“Dave Mannion, who is a guitarist in the band, wrote a song called The Spirit which was written for the occasion and played at the Gala.

“Some of the band members have ancestors who worked on docks in Belfast where Titanic was built so it was very moving to watch.”

McGuinness & Co singer Ken O’Flaherty said performing at the Gala had been a great opportunity and a very overwhelming experience.

“Success is when opportunity meets preparation,” Mr Flaherty said.

“And we’d all been preparing a long time for this. We all have Irish ancestry so the performance really hit close to home.”

Other entertainers at the Gala included Glenn Shorrock, an iconic Australian singer-songwriter who was a founding member of pop groups The Twilights, Axiom and Little River Band, and South Korean YouTube sensation, Sungha Jung, a 17 year old guitarist who has attracted millions of viewers online from around the world with his acoustic guitar covers.
